China’s Air Pollution is being used as a Business Opportunity by Companies Selling Bottled Fresh Air

It seems weird but it is totally real. A Canadian company named Vitality Air is selling fresh mountain air to its Chinese customers. The business which has been in existence since over a year, is being run by two entrepreneurs from Alberta. However, over the last two weeks, sales have increased drastically soon after Beijing issued its first ever air pollution red alert in early December. The Beijing authority issued a red alert when PM2.5 levels - minute dangerous airborne particles exceeded its limit of 500 to 900 micrograms per cubic metre. The highest warning in the new air purity system.

The same dreadful situation is arising in other part of the countries too. India, unfortunately is amongst the world’s top 5 polluting countries. As a result government bodies in Delhi, India are taking radical steps to control the alarming pollution in Delhi. Starting 1st January 2016, the number of vehicles on the roads will be restricted for two weeks i.e. From January 1 to 15, those driving cars with license plates ending with an even number will only be allowed on the roads on even-numbered dates. Similarly, odd number will only be allowed on the roads on odd -numbered dates. A same policy is already being followed in Beijing.

The dire situation is that the poisonous air is gradually trapping the whole world. 

But the air in China has crossed an alarming level. It is so hazardous to health that government authorities recommended to elders and children must stay inside the homes, while schools are closed and citizens are advised against walking outside for a long time. Those who did step out are warned to wear masks.

In order to cash in on this opportunity, Moses Lam and Troy Paquette, co-founders of Vitality Air shipped fresh mountain air to china from Canada. They travelled to the high Rocky Mountain town of Banff, western Canada for fresh air. He said "We're dealing with fresh air, we want it to be fresh and we don't want to run it through machines which are oiled and greased." Hence, each bottle of fresh air is filled by hand and then shipped thousands of miles. The first shipment is of 500 bottles to china sold out within two weeks.

Vitality Air co-founder Moses Lam says he got an idea of selling fresh air when he came to know about the air quality of china. Hence In 2014, Paquette and Lam went Rocky Mountains and compressed as much air as possible in an air tight bag, and listed on eBay as a hoax, which sold for 99 cents. He added, "We wanted to do something fun and disruptive so we decided to see if we could sell air." so they took a second chance and got tremendous results. Their second bag was sold for $168 and it was then that this fun activity turned into a successful business venture. The task is not easy, as they have to fill each bottle with bare hands which is very laborious.

But the growing orders have been a surprise for him. Lam says, many of his friends and relatives initially mocked the idea of selling air but his parents supported him. They advised him not to quit the day time bank job in Canada and at present Lam is managing both the jobs simultaneously.

According to Telegraph, Vitality Air sold a single can for $14 and double pack of can for $43, where a can consists of 150 sprays. The Vitality Air bottle is so expensive that a man can buy 50 water bottle in return of 1 can while the rates are fixed and no bargaining is allowed. Mostly the elite class and affluent women buy the cans for their relatives for personal use and to be given out as gifts. In addition to this, vitality air is also trending among the restaurants and night clubs.

After the first shipment of 500 bottles to china sold out in less than 15 days, there are 4,000 more in the pipeline. Lam says, enthusiasm is increasing following user’s feedback on the company’s customer testimonial page. A few of the testimonials on the website are certainly amazing to read. Indeed the business is growing and many such absurd solutions will soon be seen in the market. 

On evaluating these frightful situations prevailing in the whole world, it seems that in the near future, people may use fresh air connection in offices, hospitals and restaurants just like the gas line connections to intake fresh air. Let us hope, pray and take active measures so that China and other countries like India soon solve the problem of unhealthy air and make easy for its citizens to live a healthy and long life. 

Fun filled recipe competition with healthy twist @Omnie

What could be better than this for any of us .e.g. a fun filled, exciting, fresh & healthy recipe competition in the office which is an endeavour towards adopting a fit lifestyle! Yes to add a fun and excitement to the fitness drive (inspiring initiative of mini marathon by Omnie Solutions) HR team kicked off the event by the commencement of  “You are what you eat – healthy recipe competition” on Saturday 10th October 2015.  By challenging all team members to come up with  healthy and nutritious recipes. The excitement geared among all more, when we came to know that Recipes which are submitted by the participants will be consolidated in a “You are what you eat recipe cook book” and the same will be shared with the Omnie people. It was really an exciting contest for all of us.

It was not only the competition but a vigorous event encouraging all of us to enhance our culinary skillset with a healthy drive. And also to relate it with the marathon  and health awareness month i.e. October. Undoubtedly number of members actively participated  & followed the guidelines.

Here goes the  set of guidelines for ‘You are what you Eat- Healthy Recipe Competition’ that were

followed during the competition:

1.  Use of fruits and/or vegetables in the recipes would be highly recommended. 

2. Recipes must include a complete list of ingredients with accurate measurements.

3. Recipes need to have  complete step-by-step directions for preparation and   cooking times  and temperature, etc.

4. Recipes (inclusive of grain products) must use whole grain products (rice, pasta, bread, etc.).

5. Recipes (made with  dairy, sauces) must use reduced fat products.

6. Recipes (prepared with  soups, spices and sauces  must use reduced sodium options. Salt products may be used in acceptable quantities.

The  photos of  entire cooking and preparation process  surely added an extra advantage in winning the competition. The participants were invited to include photos e.g. shopping for ingredients at local farmer’s market,  the preparation and cooking process of  the finished product.

So keeping all the above instructions in mind, participants appeared with wonderful, exciting and healthy recipes. 

I remember once the competition was announced, there was so much enthusiasm among the team members that even during the lunch and tea breaks everyone was discussing about the healthy recipes.  In fact, many participants  researched online about the organic foods and low fat food recipes. With the result  it increased awareness and many people learned about the advantages and benefits of it. Even many decided to adopt a healthy lifestyle and use them in their regular lives  to stay fit & fine. This initiative by HR department is really commendable and quite appreciating    similarly, every other organization can promote this healthy initiative  to make their team members aware about it and encourage them to stay fit and fine.

Finally the competition day  arrived which was on 10th October and all the participants submitted their healthy vegetarian recipes with required details and  appealing images to the HR department. Soon after the competition was over every one discussed their recipes with each other. There was so much curiosity among each of us that who is going to win the recipe contest. Lastly, 3 days after the competition the most awaited results were announced. And the lovely thing was that  not 1 but 2 winners were announced Mrs. Arti Tandon and Mr. Sushil Kumar.

Mrs. Arti shared a wholesome and healthy recipe  ‘Sprouted Moong- Vegetable Cutlets’ and the best part of the other winner Mr. Sushil who sported best of his creativity by not only sharing the  recipe “Healthy Chickpea, Veggie Salad with Extra Virgin Oil’ image but also shared amazing and appealing pictures of the entire process of preparation and cooking.

Here things do not end up. I shall soon be sharing the winner’s recipe with the amazing pictures and all the other recipes with you for your yummy & healthy breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Google: According to the latest news from Engadget.com Google has recently published a patent application that was filed by the company more than a year ago, i.e. in March 2014. The company intends to make a wearable device that will be easier to wear, efficient and will produce more real and involving experience than ever before.

The company’s interest in this technology can also be perceived by looking at its investment of $542 million in Magic Leap (a private company dedicated to bring innovations in virtual and augmented reality), as mentioned in news given by techcrunch.com. 

Apple: As per the latest update Apple has  bigger plans to register a strong presence in this field. If speculations are to be believed Apple is working on its augmented reality headset, as mentioned in techtimes.com. The company intends to make its own augmented reality system, for which the hiring of augmented & virtual reality experts has started already (including ex-project manager of Microsoft’s Hololens).

Earlier this year the company also acquired an augmented reality start-up company named Metaio that is based in Germany. It seems like Apple is soon going to make an important announcement of release of any device or application based on augmented reality.

Microsoft: Microsoft is passionately working on its augmented reality project that is HoloLens. It is an augmented reality headset that will enable high-definition holograms to come to life. Real world integrated with augmented reality is also called the mixed reality. The headset is likely to roll out in the market next year, i.e. in 2016.

Microsoft’s Mobile Fusion app is also a well-known project to bring augmented reality experience into the users’ personal devices by letting them click a 3d image of any object.

All About Apple’s Disclosure of App Store Malware Attack and Steps to Detect Infected Device

Apple, the world’s leading brand is always supposed to have set the great degree of safety & security measures while performing any activity or launching any app on App Store. In fact buyers consider security as one of the reasons to prefer to buy Apple devices instead of Android or any other smartphones especially the professional folks. But since Apple has disclosed about the malicious attack on its app store it has disappointed its  several users and future customers. Apple exposed this breaking news after several cyber security firms pointed out malware on several of the Apple apps.

This malware arises from a malicious program dubbed XcodeGhost. Xcode is an Apple’s official software for developing iOS apps. According to cyber security firm Palo Alto Networks Inc. XcodeGhost has infected various legitimate apps. The list includes WeChat, Popular smartphone chat App, some music apps & car-hailing app Didi Kuaidi and many more. Prior to this malicious attack, total of just 5 apps were found malware affected in Apple’s history.

Ryan Olson, director of threat intelligence at Palo Alto Networks had revealed the reason for the infection of Xcode. He said hackers embedded the legitimate code in developer’s software and infected the machine and convincing developers to use the software (Xcode) to develop iOS and Mac apps.

Most of the Chinese developers downloaded this infected version of Xcode hosted elsewhere because china’s widespread censorship of the web, connections to servers are comparatively faster than other countries. Not only developers but internet users also prefer an alternative domestic source for large downloads which results into insertion of malicious code into the apps. Apple developer’s believe that many of app developers might have ignored the Gatekeeper warning (Apple’s security software) in order to run malicious Xcode.

But the Apple intelligence team has assured that malware attack was not so effective and till now there is no information of any kind of harm due to data theft been recorded. In fact Apple has removed all the infected apps from the app store that have been created by the malicious software Xcode. As well, authorities are working hard with the developers of legitimate apps to make sure they are using the official version of Xcode to rebuild the apps said by Apple spokeswoman Christine Monaghan.

The brief analysis shows that the above information is sent to a unique URL via a HTTP POST request.

If we see, Apple did not reveal how many apps it uncovered that are found infected or how many users have downloaded those apps. But many researchers are predicting that the list is long. According to Palo Alto Networks it has published a list of 39 of the affected iOS apps . While, Qihoo360 Technology, Chinese Security Company said on its blog that it had detected 344 apps that were infected. 

A researcher at the Sans Institute provides the following useful information for the iOS users on its blog – It lets you know how to check whether your device is infected or not.

So, don’t waste a minute and check your iOS device whether it is safe from malicious attack or not.

Is Yahoo Ready to Experiment its Search Results from Google? Find Out

Internet is a market whose success completely depends on user experience and behavior. Google is the search engine that is leading this competition by providing top notch search results to users. But, a latest news in the market created a buzz that now Yahoo is also looking forward to avail the search engine services of Google. No news of any final deal has come yet from both the companies, but the partnership is still in a testing phase. Google is followed by Microsoft with 10% share and then comes Yahoo with 9.6% share. If we talk about U.S, Google is having 64.4% market share, Microsoft 20.1% and Yahoo 12.7%. Google is also the most trusted search engine among users.

According to the latest amendment of agreement that took place in April, 2015 between Yahoo and Microsoft, allows Yahoo to power its search results with different search engine companies as well. Although, a big part of Yahoo search results, i.e. of 51% would still be delivered by Microsoft’s Bing.

Why Yahoo is Experimenting with Google?

This new move of Yahoo clearly indicates that it wants to experiment something new with its search results. As, Google is the most widely used search engine among users, it can help Yahoo in building a better trust factor and increase market share. 

Google search uses very smart algorithms to deliver exactly the same result a reader desires for. If Yahoo will use Google’s search results, it will help in improving user-experience and thus its overall reputation in search engine market.

Another and the most important benefit that Yahoo wants to achieve with its partnership with Google is to increase its share and profit returns in search engine market. A to Z of Google‘s New Alphabet and why Google created it

Since long Google has been  holding the position of being one of the top leading tech giants in the technology world. Many of you must be aware of its versatile business set-up. In addition to its core search business, it has invented plethora of new products.

But recently there was a major breakthrough which took place in the history of Google – Larry Page the co-founder of Google announced on Monday August 10,  that the tech giant has  been recognised under new parent company known as Alphabet Inc. Larry signifies  Alphabet represent language, most important innovation by human and "essential element of indexing" in a Google Internet search. The biggest surprise about the same was the announcement of    the Indian-born Sundar Pichai, being appointed as the new CEO of Google. While the executive  in charge of Alphabet will be CEO Larry Page and co-founder Sergey Brin both leaders will  oversee a group of companies.

Alphabet will include the following companies – 

The largest of which is Google for sure, with no change in businesses and products i.e.: "Google Search, Maps, AdWords & AdSense, Applications, YouTube, Android and the related technical infrastructure are still operated by it."

And the other businesses which were working under Google, spinning off to work as a separate entity under Alphabet such as:

Calico: life-extension biotech research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies.

Nest: Nest Labs manufactures  thermostat and other smart home products like smoke detectors, alarm and other security systems  

Other ventures such as Fiber, Google Ventures and Google Capital, Google X will be managed separately other from Google.

Larry Page explains why it introduces the umbrella company Alphabet in its blog. He says, it's designed to help other Google’s businesses to flourish outside of the search company and act as an individual entity. Each business will be led by skilled CEO of respective company and also supported by officials from adjacent market. Independently they can grow faster and with more new inventions. Simultaneously, Google can now concentrate  more on search and Internet-related businesses and new inventions instead of involving in long term projects like self-driving cars and drones, and other small projects like smart contact lenses and Google Glass .

But Questions raise in everybody’s mind why? And how Google can get benefit out of it?

According to experts, there are different reasons and lot of gossips why tech giant made this move, but the two main reasons are - To maintain better investment transparency on business and it will create proper management and more leadership opportunities for its people.

Since Google is there for around 20 years, and running in profit state till now but company structure is not properly organised due to number of different businesses under it. This frustrates the investors and it becomes difficult for management to streamline things  so it is not growing as rapidly as it used to do.

Let’s throw some light on what other people think about Alphabet:

1.Freedom of capital allotment on any business – From now things will be more independent. Now Management (Larry and Sergey) can freely allot substantial capital to any of the business they want. Earlier  situations were different when the different products and services  are under Google. Investment on particular business raised many questions like why to invest when it is not generating much revenue. But from now business will be handled with full freedom under each skilled CEO.

2.Maximize profit and reduce taxation: Under the new structure planning, Alphabet Inc. will be the holding company, it has no manufacturing set up, services or products of its own. Hence, it will not involve in any kind of business operation. This allows the company to maximise the profit and minimize taxation charge because if subsidiaries ownership is more than 80% the shares it gets are not taxed.

3.Risk mitigation: It means bear your own liabilities without involvement of other. In simple language if any company undergoing substantial losses than it has to bear it alone, no other company will bear any liability. Hence it separate the growth and revenue of individual business.

Therefore this new structure planning of Larry Page kept investors happy and also all the businesses under Alphabet are managed  effortlessly and properly by skilled and smart leaders.
